When you`re making a film there and things need to get done quickly, this can pose a problem.'' ''It requires a lot of energy and effort because it operates on a different sort of time. While Poirot is rather dapper, sporting a three-piece suit, pocket watch, silver-topped cane and signature mustache, Pünd is less glamorous. And of course, it's human frailty that that gives rise to the mistakes that people make which lead them to commit crimes. "I felt that when when he gets to the point of working out who did it – which of course is a great achievement and an intellectual satisfaction for him – it is almost more in sorrow and pity than in anger. "He's a gentle soul, but who has this tenacity to get to the truth of things," he continued. He's wounded by his experiences, haunted by his experiences, but he's very dignified. "He's been in German labor camp during the war and then he comes to England as a refugee and sets up as a private detective in the style of Poirot and other private detectives that we know," said McMullan. The detective seems unflappable, perhaps influenced by his past. ![]() As Susan reads her book, onscreen we see how Atticus gets pulled into investigating two deaths that may or may not be related. I have always thought that teenagers in love, forbidden love and the likes are a bit overplayed at best and impractical in real life (alas, this is fantasy). I find some aspects of the story a bit trivial and annoying (teeny love stories are a bit overplayed to me in general). The number of characters in the circle itself, the description of some of the characters, the make-up of the families and the very motive behind how or why the circle was formed. ![]() As for the story, it is far different from the series in many ways. That is (in a sense) what the book is, however I believe with a different narrator it might have felt more than that. My only thought (slight problem really and it's just a personal thing) however is that the narrator though suited for this genre from the get go makes me think that this is a teeny romance novel. The narrator first and foremost is very much suited for this genre I must say, she did do a pretty fair job of the book itself. ![]() The series give you an idea of what the book itself is about but the stories are quite different in a lot of sense. The fat heroine is smart, angry, sexy, and complicated. ![]() It’s hilarious, and charming, and extremely well written. I fell hard for Bet Me, by Jennifer Crusie, years ago, and reread it about once a year. Which frankly I really need in my reading life these days. They all have something in common: they are funny, lighthearted fluff. I’m going to talk about three m/f romances centering fat heroines that I particularly appreciate. Sure she may learn to trust he actually wants her by the end, but the bulk of the story is mired in fatphobia. Despite the happy endings, they reinforce fatphobia. ![]() I think of these as fat negative romances. Sometimes they get bullied or harassed for being fat, often to rescued by the hero. Sometimes they learn to accept their size through the love of a good man (or in at least one case, men). Sometimes, if I get lucky, the sex is really hot. Mostly what I find is characters with lots of self-loathing, who diet continuously, cover up immediately after sex, and assume that the hero doesn’t really want them or that a thin woman is going to steal him. It’s hard to find a good m/f romance centering a fat heroine. It was written and posted in February 2017. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I’ll be waiting impatiently now for the trailer. Cormac McCarthy’s dialogue is spare and witty Ethan Coen’s characters are either excessively verbose or they hardly speak at all so it’s easy to see the appeal, especially when the plot isn’t so far removed from Blood Simple or Fargo. This should see them back on form again after the calamity of The Ladykillers and they do the hardboiled thing really well. I’m reading the novel at the moment and loving it, so the prospect of a Coens adaptation is rather mouthwatering. The book cover looks better but we’ll probably see some variations on the poster design anyway. ![]() Who runs this thing The Book Cover Archive is edited and maintained by Ben Pieratt and Eric Jacobsen.
